CREATIVE CARRY
VISCOM MAGAZINE SPREAD DESIGNS
VisCom Magazine is a student publication created through the Visual Communications Art Direction and Commercial Photography III course at Ohio University. As a Creative Director, I collaborated with photographers and designers to develop cohesive visual stories that reflected the identity of the publication. For my “Creative Carry” spread, I explored what’s inside the bags of different Visual Communication majors at Ohio University. Paired with a commercial photographer, I art directed the photoshoot to create a consistent visual language across the spread, then designed the layout, retouched the photography, and wrote the accompanying copy. Working within the magazine’s established brand guidelines, I translated the concept into a cohesive editorial experience. The spread received recognition from the Society for News Design, while VisCom Magazine was awarded first place in the Design category of the 2026 Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Student Magazine Contest.

OHIO UNIVERSITY PRESS
BOOK DESIGN
OU Press was an internship I completed during my senior year at Ohio University, working under the Production Director to design book covers and prepare publications for print. I collaborated directly with clients to understand their vision, developed multiple cover concepts, and refined designs through feedback and iteration. With a typical turnaround of about one week per cover, the experience strengthened my ability to manage projects efficiently while maintaining attention to detail. Beyond cover design, I created publication manuals and typeset full-length books for the press, gaining extensive experience with Adobe InDesign and professional print production. This internship gave me hands-on experience navigating the full publication process, from initial concept through final print preparation.
SALAD DAYS FOR VARIANT
MAGAZINE SPREAD DESIGNS
Variant Magazine is a student-run publication that I worked with as a Publication Designer throughout my senior year at Ohio University. For the “Salad Days” issue, the magazine explored Y2K culture and design, creating an opportunity to develop playful, nostalgic, and attention-grabbing editorial work. For my assigned spreads, “The Fun Pages,” I collaborated with a photographer and copy editor to bring each concept to life. Working under the direction of the executive board, I developed layouts and visual concepts that captured the energetic personality and distinctive voice of Variant while contributing to the overall visual consistency of the issue.
